To talk about our purpose, and our sport!
"The ocean has always been a salve to my soul ... but the best thing for a cut or abrasion was to go swimming in salt water. Later down the road of life, I made the discovery that salt water was also good for the mental abrasions one inevitably acquires on land. " -Jimmy Buffett

To: SJISF Board Members and Interested Parties
Subject: August Minutes and September Agenda
Present: Scott Boye, Susan and Peter Risser, Barb Bevens, Abbie Finney, Pablo Lopez, Marilyn O’Connor
Guest: Catherine Bevens
Scott called the meeting to order at 6::00 while we were under sail on a J122.
Abbie volunteered to be the one checking license plates at the Cascade Lake Campout.
Announcement: Pablo Lopez announced that they will be hosting a foreign exchange student from Budapest who is a passionate sailor and is presently coaching a youth sailing group.
According to Kyle Eaton, Performance Sailing is still out of Laser rudders.
Ralph Hahn talked to Scott about Island Rec. They are concerned about Marty Percich’s letter. They will discuss it at their board meeting on Thursday. Susan read our copy of the letter aloud to the board.
There are only 3 signups for the Advanced class. Peter will call last year’s and this year’s intermediate students to see if they are interested in signing up for the advanced class.
Team racing: Orcas will host an all ages Team Racing Regatta the 20th and 21st of September.
Island Rec meetings: Peter and Susan will do the Aug 7 meeting and Barb Bevens will do the one on the 21st.
New Business: The Open Bic works well for the small kids, especially for capsizing. Scott reports that if we should desire to purchase it, we would get a new one for the price of this demo boat. It would be about $1,800.00. We will revisit this in the fall when we see what the funds look like.
There will be a dock take-down party at Percich Pond on August 10. We’ll call people when we know the time of arrival of the tractor (volunteered by Don McLasky) and perhaps organize a barbeque.
We discussed the concept of loaning boats to other organizations. Mulled over the possible rules (for an organized event, a list of pre-authorized people, perhaps those who contribute to the foundation, which would then include the SJIYacht Club, FH Sailing Club, Nasmans, Port of FH) and will bring it up at the September meeting.
Adjourned at 7:30.
