To talk about our purpose, and our sport!
"The ocean has always been a salve to my soul ... but the best thing for a cut or abrasion was to go swimming in salt water. Later down the road of life, I made the discovery that salt water was also good for the mental abrasions one inevitably acquires on land. " -Jimmy Buffett

And note that the meeting is to be aboard a boat...Call us if there are any questions. Sailing Foundation Board Meeting July 1, 2008
Present: Scott Boye, Peter and Susan Risser, Mary Blevins, Christine Chan, Abbie Finney, Dez! Bridgmon
Absent: Pam Gross, Nigel Oswald, Marilyn O’Connor, Pablo Lopez, Barbara Bevens
Scott called the meeting to order at 5:42. Peter moved to approve the June 3 minutes. Dez! seconded. Passed.
Mary gave the treasurer’s report. There is a total of $30,649.97, of which $2,310.00 are earmarked for memorial funds, $7,419.71 for the sailing team, $1,025.00 are restricted, and $19,895.26 for operations.
Mary announced that Tom will probably be working the weekend of Cascade Lake campout. She needs to find someone else to check the extra cars: keep track of license plates. Dez! has printed out Cascade Lake handouts to give to parents of kids taking sailing lessons.
Peter reports the first week of sailing classes was good. The teen basic was frustrated by too much wind the first 3 days and very little the last 2 days.
Island Rec. No one from Island Rec was present, but Ralph Hahn told Scott that he has nothing to report.
Old business. Scott and Dez! picked up 4 radial sails, 4 bottom sections, and 2 partial Pro Rigs. Laser is shipping out new boats with NO rudders these days, so we can’t get rudders right now.
Scott has talked to Burke Thomas about where they get the placards for sailboat sponsorship and more information will be forthcoming in a month or so.
Team racing for next fall – Dez! has been working on putting together a class. She is working on drills, and plans to have 6 boats out. The class will run the 1st week in September through the 2nd week in October.
Scott moved and Peter seconded to authorize use of the Vanguards by the sailing team for the team racing class for a 6 week period in the fall. We’ll charge about $75.00 per sailor. The money will be used for the coach’s stipend; any left over will go toward maintenance of the boats. Scott tabled the motion for discussion at the next meeting. We will need to find a helper for Dez! for this class. The first and third Thursdays of each month at 5:00 are Island Rec board meetings.
Scott adjourned at 7:11.
Agenda for the August 5 meeting, exact location to be telephoned to board members. We will be having our meeting aboard the boat Scott will be on for Shaw Island Race.
Everyone should bring finger food (something that can be eaten off a napkin…) because we will probably be sailing for about 3 hours.
