To talk about our purpose, and our sport!

"The ocean has always been a salve to my soul ... but the best thing for a cut or abrasion was to go swimming in salt water. Later down the road of life, I made the discovery that salt water was also good for the mental abrasions one inevitably acquires on land. " -Jimmy Buffett

Scott talked about the District Double Handed Regatta. There were 24 races over 2 days. North Kitsap won with 61 points. Dick Rose came up from Seattle to judge.

Maverick reported on last weekend’s Team Racing Districts. North Kitsap won that one but as they are going to Nationals for Double Handed, Bainbridge, who came in second, will go to Nationals for Team Racing Nationals.

Aaron Hayes towed the dock to Jackson’s Beach in time for the Double Handed Districts.

Treasurer’s report. We have $23,507.07 in the general operating fund, but there are several large outstanding bills. There are $2,110. in Memorial Funds., $1,025 in restricted funds, $5,580. for the Sailing Team.

Island Rec Report. There may be a young woman to teach the Women’s Sailing Class. She will be working for Island Rec this summer.

Peter wants to form an ad hoc committee to work on the dilemma of the amount of sailing instructor job hours and the amount of certified instructors. There are a limited number of hours and several prospective instructors to share those hours, giving no one many paid hours.

Marc Islam did a great job of getting a Coronado 15 donated for the Children’s Festival and getting it to and from the Fairgrounds, to say nothing of running the set up for kids in the rain.

We talked about setting the community test sail on Vanguard 15’s for Sunday, May 18. We need to get posters up at the middle school.

Lasagna Dinner is set for May 20. There is an organizational meeting on Friday at 2 in Barb’s office.

Peter moved, Susan seconded that we bump up the membership amounts for the Sailing Foundation as follows: $10. for a junior membership, $20 for a single adult, and $35 for a family membership. We can revisit it in 2 years. Passed unanimously.

The sailing team has requested getting together in the fall to do team racing. They would like to do team racing in the fall and fleet racing in the spring. Scott moved, Barb seconded that the Sailing Foundation authorize use of the boats for a team racing seminar for the months of September and October. The sailing coach will bring a proposal to the July meeting.

The team members would like to borrow the Lasers for getting ready for the Wind Regatta at the Gorge, and for Single Handed District (Cressy Cup) in October of next year. Scott moved, Barb seconded to make the boats available for this use at the coach’s discretion. Passed.

Fundraising proposals. Dez! is doing invitations for Marilyn Nasman’s Solstice Party which will be a fundraiser for the sailing team to go to regattas.. The team is also thinking of something for the 4th of July parade, a Jambalaya feed, and a booth at the fair in August.

We had some discussion on whether to purchase Pro Rigs for the Lasers.

Scott suggests an ad hoc committee re the equipment, how it is used and how it will be funded, and bring it to the next meeting. The committee will be Dez!, Scott and some of the team members.

We have some signups for the boat sponsorship program, but have yet to get placards made and pictures taken. Peter, Dez!, and Scot will get together.

Adjourned at 7:11.
