To talk about our purpose, and our sport!
"The ocean has always been a salve to my soul ... but the best thing for a cut or abrasion was to go swimming in salt water. Later down the road of life, I made the discovery that salt water was also good for the mental abrasions one inevitably acquires on land. " -Jimmy Buffett

San Juan Sailing Foundation Board Meeting Nov. 4, 2008
Present: Peter and Susan Risser, Scot Boye, Dez! Bridgmon, Barb Bevens, Mary Blevins, Peter Chan, Abbie Finney
Absent: Pablo Lopez, Nigel Oswald, Marilyn O’Connor
Guest: Catherine Bevens
Scott called the meeting to order at 5:51 after being relocated from the library to the Griffin Bay School.
Peter moved, Barb seconded to accept the minutes from October and 23. Passed.
Treasurer’s report: We have a total of $11,659.42 in the bank. We have bought 2 new Vanguards, which Scott picked up last Friday.
There is no Island Rec report.
There was a lot of discussion of the separation of the sailing team from Island Rec. We need to get insurance for the coach. After some discussion we tabled this until next month, but Abbie will take the information to Sally Kerr at Island Rec. and get it into the Island Rec brochure. Mary and Scott will gather the financial information for the next meeting.
Dez! and Peter need to get together and start writing out a policy manual (including job description, describe who does the administration, maybe make a task list).
Boat sponsorship: Abbie will update the letter and send it out for the 2009 season.
We talked about the float which is coming apart. Peter will go pull up some decking and get with Gary at the Port of Friday Harbor about fixing it. We decided to do the Island Cup at Roche Harbor this year, so we will not be needing the float this season.
We need to go to a Port meeting and discuss the net shed.
Matt Mickleborg will do the fiberglass work on the Vanguard blades for a reasonable price. Scott will take them to him over the Thanksgiving holiday.
Open Bic: There is no money to spare for an Open Bic.
Committee work: The board member enhancement committee will make a report next meeting.
The boat house. Peter will get with Sondra Wilson about pruning the cherry tree and looking at the damaged roof.
Mary and Scott will get together about the pay for the sailing coach for Team Racing.
